According to a news broadcast a coyote recently walked into a Chicago resturaunt : a Quiznos resturaunt to be exact . It went and lingered by the cold drinks section .
Later after much photographs by lookers-on , it was escorted out by city animal services apparently .
I didn't know there were coyotes in Illinois--let alone the big city of Chicago . When I think of coyotes I think of states like Utah, Texas , South Dakota ect .

Re: Coyote found in Chicago resturaunt
Thu, April 5, 2007 - 12:24 AMthere was a coyote in NYC too, last summer, i believe. they think it came from westchester into the bronx, swam over the harlem river, somehow found riverside park, managed to cross traffic (!) and get into central park. for days, the poor thing eluded the heartless media-driven spectacle of the parks dept hunting it down. finally they shot a tranquilizer dart into it, tackled it in an unnecessarily aggressive way. they claimed the coyote was a healthy one year old. a day later it died (suspiciously). suddenly the authorities changed their story saying the coyote's autopsy showed a heart murmur or something alone those lines.
long story short: coyote has no habiitat due to people development. coyote tries to find food. people chase it down, traumatize and scare it. media reports in an irresponsibly light-hearted tone about "wily coyote." coyote dies. peoeple are no wiser. this is more sad than strange. -

Re: Coyote found in Chicago resturaunt
Thu, April 5, 2007 - 3:24 PMThat's a damn shame that some don't respect such beautiful creations .
I wish it hadn't have died .
New York city's outskirts, I've known for a couple of years, has it's share of wilderness. There's an excellent essay on that titled Wild Nights . The Bronx and Staten Island , especially. But I didn't know Chicago did ..... -

Re: Coyote found in Chicago resturaunt
Thu, April 5, 2007 - 9:04 PM'Wild Nights' was written by Anne Matthews . You might check out a Barnes and Noble booksellers and reference it with her name . I got it through an audiobook service through a division of the Library of Congress that my Grandfather allows me to share sometimes .
If only somebody could go back and time and have saved the coyote ....
That must have been an awesome sight: the great horned owl .
Birds are my favorite kind of animal .
Although as far as flying creatures go , I would have liked to have seen a pterodactyl in flight. What a majestic sight that would have been --and could be if somehow one were revived .
