there was a coyote in NYC too, last summer, i believe. they think it came from westchester into the bronx, swam over the harlem river, somehow found riverside park, managed to cross traffic (!) and get into central park. for days, the poor thing eluded the heartless media-driven spectacle of the parks dept hunting it down. finally they shot a tranquilizer dart into it, tackled it in an unnecessarily aggressive way. they claimed the coyote was a healthy one year old. a day later it died (suspiciously). suddenly the authorities changed their story saying the coyote's autopsy showed a heart murmur or something alone those lines.

long story short: coyote has no habiitat due to people development. coyote tries to find food. people chase it down, traumatize and scare it. media reports in an irresponsibly light-hearted tone about "wily coyote." coyote dies. peoeple are no wiser. this is more sad than strange.
