What is it? What makes something funny? We all have a natural reaction to funny stuff... laughing... but two people can have wildly different ideas about what is funny... and two people can have a totally different idea about whether or not a specific situation is funny.
Is there a unifying statement about what makes something funny?

Sun, January 30, 2005 - 1:09 PMSomething unexpected yet shockingly true.
Something unexpected and untrue but with a true idea or metaphor which is revealing. Something ironic, conveyed with a twist.
Something you know - something universal, familar and mundane but that has never been spoken out loud, conveyed in just the right way, in a deliberate rhythm. (Now I'm thinking of stand-up comedy.)
Yet I know I'm only on the on the edge of describing what is funny. There are more ingredients. -

Sun, January 30, 2005 - 5:06 PMsomeone once told me they thought it was the element of truth in something that makes it funny...
now... not to get all vibe.net on you... but I've experienced that often times... people I've considered wise were also very funny to behold... radiating an ambience about them that makes it easy for them to make you laugh... perhaps even with a simple look or gesture...
